Dry Needling is a therapeutic treatment for musculoskeletal/soft tissue dysfunction. This treatment helps to normalize homeostasis in the body in order to promote self-healing. Dry Needling is a modern, science-based intervention in which fine needles are insterted into myofascial trigger points, tendons, ligaments, or near nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions. Research indicates many effects (mechanical, hypoalgesic, chemical, neurophysiologic and hormonal) that are behind the reduction of pain and dysfunction with dry needling therapy. Dry needling is not acupuncture or Oriental Medicine; that is, it does not have the purpose of altering the flow of energy (“Qi”) along traditional Chinese meridians for the treatment of diseases.
